Our Partners
Our goal is to provide opportunities for children and youth to participate in physical activity and fitness programs, to develop skills and knowledge towards health and wellness while asserting autonomy and independence in a fun and social environment.
Who these programs are for
The CAGE programs are suitable for children and youth - 4 to 19 years old - with physical, sensory or developmental disabilities.
About the CAGE program
The Centre for Adapted Group and Individual Exercise (CAGE) is the children and youth component of The Steadward Centre for Personal & Physical Achievement.
The CAGE programs provide
- motor skill instruction,
- exercise programs,
- and disability sport development for children and youth with disabilities
At present, the CAGE serves over 200 children and youth and their families with a range of disabilities including
- autism,
- developmental coordination disorder
- Cerebral Palsy
- physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities, among others.
The objectives of the CAGE program are
- to provide opportunities for children and youth of all ability levels to participate in physical activity and fitness programs,
- and to develop health and wellness while asserting their independence in a fun and social environment.
CAGE offers these programs:
- Fitness and exercise programs
- 1:1 motor skill development,
- age-specific group physical activity programs
- Skate Challenge- inline skating and basic hockey skills (7-12)
- Cycle Challenge- learn to ride bike program (6+)
- Teen Night (ages 12+)
- Sport Sampler (ages 7-12)
- Little Activators (ages 4-6)
- athlete development and
- team training.
The CAGE program is a community-based program and so referrals are not necessary to register for the program.
Free tours are provided to children with disabilities and their families to determine the appropriate program for the child.
